Hawks Ready To Begin 2008-2009 Season

After going 5-3 in the pre-season this year, the Hawks are ready to get the real 2008-2009 season started. They will open up on the road in Orlando on Wednesday, October 29th at 7:00 PM.

The Hawks season ended last year with a first round exit from the playoffs in an exciting and dramatic 7 game series with the Celtics that saw the home team win every game. They look to build on the playoff experience, and hopefully can get a higher seed than the 8 spot they had last season.

The off season included several changes, including Billy knight out as GM, and Rick Sund in. New players include Guard/Forward Maurice Evans, Center Randolph Morris, Forward Othello Hunter, Guard Thomas Gardner, and Guard Ronald "Flip" Murray.

Notable departures include Josh Childress, who left to play in Greece, and Salim Stoudamire who left to play with the Spurs.

In other interesting news, Dominique Wilkins is joining Bob Rathbun for the Hawks TV games on FSN South and SportSouth. I'm guessing that means Steve Smith is out, which is too bad, I enjoyed his broadcasting. Oh well, I'll see how it works out. To further make the TV situation more interesting, former announcer Mike Glenn will be re-joining the broadcasting as an analyst for Hawks LIVE, and providing expanded post-game coverage.
